Bennet was raised in Washington, D.C., where his father served as a personal assistant to several people including Vice President Hubert Humphrey. He was a page on Capitol Hill and went to the exclusive all-boys prep school St. Albans School.

Bennet graduated from Yale Law School in 1993 and served as the Yale Law Journal’s chief editor while there.
